Brooke Underwood is our Program Coordinator here at the GAC. This entails scheduling all swim lessons, water fitness and specialty programs that we offer. Along with hiring instructors, Brooke also teaches the Red Cross WSI courses.
Hailing from the tiny island of Bermuda, Brooke has always loved the water and understood the importance of learning to swim. While she never participated in competitive swimming, Brooke did compete in sailing starting at age 7.
Starting back in summer 2013, is when Brooke really started to develop a passion of teaching lessons and water safety. That’s when she had a summer job teaching lesson, back in Bermuda. Since moving to south Florida in 2014, Brooke has worked for various well established swim schools and city aquatic facilities. She came to us with numerous aquatic related certifications, notably Red Cross LGI and WSI. Now here at the GAC Brooke has since acquired her WSIT and CPO, among other cross over trainings for different CPR and First Aid Instructor certifications.
Brooke came to us from the City of Sunrise in Florida, where she was Lead Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. Between the city and swim school operating at that same pool she worked there for 4 years. At that pool she helped with conducting in-service trainings and supervising staff and patron safety. Prior, Brooke was in a hybrid role at the Boynton Beach Mandel JCC, acting as lead swim instructor, office manager and lifeguard.
Brooke first started here at the GAC in September of 2022, as one of our Lifeguard Supervisors. In November of 2023, she shifted roles to our first Full-Time Water Safety Instructor. As of April 2024, Brooke has taken on the role as Program Coordinator.
